Regular servicing is the cheapest motoring you will ever do. It is far less expensive to change oil on time than to replace an engine that ran without it. At H&H Auto Traders in Ōtāhuhu, we service petrol and diesel vehicles from $120, with the price confirmed before we touch your car.
We service everything from small Japanese hatchbacks to family sedans, wagons, vans, utes and large diesel vehicles — the cars that actually fill South Auckland driveways.

What a Service Costs at H&H Auto Traders
Small Petrol Car Service — from $120
Normal Petrol Car Service — from $150
For standard sedans, wagons and mid-size vehicles. Includes everything in the small service plus air filter inspection, a full fluid check, and a belt, hose, battery, lights and wiper inspection.
Diesel & Large Petrol Engine Service — from $180
For diesel vehicles, utes, vans and large-capacity petrol engines. Includes diesel-grade oil and filter, fuel filter check, coolant and fluid checks, glow plug and battery inspection on diesels, plus the full mechanical visual inspection.
If your vehicle requires fully synthetic oil or a non-standard filter, we will tell you the difference in cost before starting.
What We Check on Every Service
- Engine oil and oil filter — drained and replaced, not topped up
- Coolant, brake fluid, power steering fluid and washer fluid levels
- Air filter condition
- Brake pad and disc condition
- Tyre tread depth, wear pattern and pressure — including the spare
- Battery condition and charging output
- Belts and hoses for cracking, glazing or perishing
- Lights, indicators, horn and wipers
- Suspension and steering components for play or leaks
- Exhaust condition
- A written report of anything that needs attention now or soon
How Often Should You Service Your Car in New Zealand?
As a general rule, every 10,000km or every 12 months, whichever comes first. But real-world driving matters more than the number:
- Mostly short trips around Ōtāhuhu, Māngere or Papatoetoe? Service more often. Short journeys never get the engine fully warm, which is harder on oil than motorway driving.
- High kilometres on the Southern Motorway? Stick to the kilometre interval rather than the annual one.
- Vehicle sitting for long periods? Oil degrades with time as well as use. Service annually regardless of distance.
- Towing a boat or trailer? Shorten the interval.

How long does a car service take?
Most standard services take two to three hours. If we find something that needs attention, we will call you before doing any extra work.
Will servicing here affect my new car warranty?
Servicing at an independent workshop does not void a manufacturer’s warranty in New Zealand, provided the service is carried out to the manufacturer’s schedule with suitable parts and oils and is properly recorded. Tell us your vehicle is under warranty and we will document it accordingly.
Do you stamp service books?
Yes — bring your service book with you.
What is the difference between a service and a WoF?
A WoF is a safety inspection required by law. A service is preventative maintenance. Passing a WoF does not mean your car has been serviced, and a serviced car can still fail a WoF. Most drivers need both.
Can you service my diesel ute?
Yes. Diesel and large petrol engine servicing starts from $180.
Do you service Japanese imports?
Yes. A large share of the vehicles we work on are used Japanese imports, and we are familiar with their common wear points.
