Why the Free Code Read Is Not Enough
Plenty of places will read a code for nothing. The problem is what happens next. A common oxygen sensor code can be caused by the sensor itself, an exhaust leak, a vacuum leak or a fuelling fault. Replacing the sensor because the code mentioned it is how people spend money twice.
We charge from $50 because we spend the time to confirm the cause before recommending a repair. It is almost always cheaper than the alternative.
Is It Safe to Keep Driving With a Warning Light On?
- Steady orange or amber engine light: usually driveable, but book in soon. Ignored faults get more expensive.
- Flashing engine light: stop driving where safe. A flashing light typically indicates a misfire that can destroy the catalytic converter.
- Red warning light (oil pressure, temperature, brakes, charging): pull over safely and call us on 027 786 3135.
- ABS or airbag light: the car will drive, but a safety system is not working. Get it looked at.

Often yes. The code usually remains stored in the computer and can be retrieved, which tells us what happened even though the light has cleared.
